About the Artist

Patrick Rubinstein

Patrick Rubinstein is a French contemporary artist born in Paris in 1960, renowned for his innovative contributions to kinetic and optical art. Growing up in a family deeply engaged with the arts—his mother a cinema enthusiast and his father a collector and practitioner of kinetic techniques—Rubinstein was introduced to the principles of Op Art and kinetic art at an early age.

In 1977, at just 17 years old, Rubinstein began creating his first optical works. He developed a unique technique known as the "Dooble Principle," which involves cutting two images into strips and arranging them on a pyramidal structure. This accordion-folded assembly creates a dynamic visual experience, where the image shifts as the viewer changes perspective, revealing different facets of the artwork.

Rubinstein's work is characterized by its fusion of pop culture icons, vibrant colors, and optical illusions, drawing inspiration from movements such as Surrealism, Pop Art, and Street Art. His pieces invite viewers to engage actively, as the perception of the artwork changes with movement and light, offering a personalized visual journey.

His art has garnered international acclaim, with exhibitions in Europe and the United States. Notably, his works are part of prestigious collections, including those of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and prominent figures in fashion and sports.

Rubinstein continues to live and work in Paris, where he remains at the forefront of contemporary kinetic art, constantly exploring new dimensions and perspectives in his creations.
